3 Awesome Flatbread Pizza Recipes to Try

The next time you bring home extra flatbreads from the local bakery, don't throw them away! They make the perfect base for pizzas—and not just traditional pizzas with red sauce and mozzarella, either! Here are three more unique flatbread recipes to try the next time you have extra flatbreads.

Black and Blue Flatbread

Topped with blue cheese and steak, this flatbread has a very "upscale" flavor and will remind you of something that's served in your favorite restaurant.

Ingredients (for one pizza):

  • 1 flatbread
  • 1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese
  • 1/4 cup blue cheese dressing
  • 4 ounces sirloin steak, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped onion, optional

Spread the blue cheese dressing onto the flatbread, and then sprinkle on the other ingredients. Place the flatbread on a baking sheet, and bake at 350 degrees F for 10–12 minutes or until the top begins to brown lightly. Let it cool, then enjoy.

Spicy Apple Pizza

This pizza features sweet ingredients, so you could even serve it at the end of a meal as dessert! However, it is a totally healthy choice, so there's no harm in enjoying it for lunch or dinner, either.

Ingredients:

  • 1 flatbread
  • 1/2 an apple, sliced thinly
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 tablespoons chopped walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon granola
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Lay the apple slices over the flatbread crust, and sprinkle them with cinnamon. Drizzle the apples with the honey and balsamic. Then, sprinkle on the remaining ingredients. Place the flatbread in a 325 degree F oven, and bake for about 15 minutes. Let cool to room temperature before serving.

Four-Veggie Flatbread

This flatbread is a great choice for those on a vegan diet. As long as you have a vegan flatbread and substitute soy cheese, your result will be entirely meat and dairy-free.

Ingredients:

  • 1 flatbread
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese or soy cheese
  • 1/2 a tomato, sliced
  • 1/4 cup sliced red onion
  • 1/4 cup cooked broccoli florettes
  • 1/4 cup sauteed mushrooms
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Drizzle the flatbread with olive oil, and then layer on the tomatoes. Sprinkle the tomatoes with the garlic and oregano. Then, layer on the other vegetables. Place in a 350 degree F oven, and bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and slightly brown. Let cool, and enjoy. Any leftovers are excellent when reheated in a toaster oven.
